Frequently Asked
Questions
Everything you need to know about electrolysis—
so you can feel confident in your choice.
Is electrolysis permanent?
Yes. Electrolysis is the only FDA-cleared method of permanent hair
removal. It works by treating the hair follicle at its root so the hair
cannot grow back. When performed by a trained professional, treated hairs
are permanently removed.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation as a quick, mild pinch, warmth, or
tingling feeling. Sensitivity varies depending on the treatment area and
your individual pain tolerance. Settings can be adjusted to help keep your
session as comfortable as possible.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies from person to person. Hair growth cycles,
the treatment area, hair density, hormones, and previous hair-removal
methods can all affect the timeline. A personalized treatment plan can be
discussed during your consultation.
Can electrolysis help with PCOS-related hair growth?
Yes. Electrolysis can permanently remove treated hairs caused by
PCOS-related or hormonal hair growth. Because hormonal changes may cause
new hairs to develop over time, continued treatments may be needed for
newly activated follicles.
Is it safe for all skin tones?
Yes. Electrolysis works on every skin tone and hair color because it
treats each individual follicle rather than targeting pigment.
Can I shave between appointments?
Yes, shaving is generally fine between appointments. Avoid tweezing,
waxing, threading, or using an epilator because the hair must remain
connected to the follicle for treatment. Allow enough growth before your
appointment for the hair to be visible and grasped with tweezers.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Arrive with clean skin and avoid applying makeup, lotions, oils, or heavy
skincare products to the treatment area. Stay hydrated and avoid tweezing
or waxing beforehand. The hair should be long enough to grasp.
What should I expect after treatment?
Temporary redness, warmth, or mild swelling may occur after treatment and
usually settles within several hours. Follow the aftercare instructions
provided and avoid touching, picking, excessive heat, and irritating
products on the treated area.
